Denotation : The horse dance step

Connotation : It's a means to show how Gangnam people are wealthy now . With the steep prices on land in Korea , only the rich can afford to own and take care of horses.

Myth: city's past agricultural history

if you realized, this OPPA GANGNAM STLYE is spreading all over the place and become a trend?

On radio , on Facebook , on Youtube , on tumblr , on 9gag and even in class, classmates are saying about it , on the street i saw people dance it and in house , my brother came over and sing to me "Oppa Gangnam Style". Once proven again how strong is the medias are now to influence and spread news fast. I really wondering why is it people so addictive and the dance become as a trend now.

Gangnam Style is a song by PSY, one of the Korea's most prominent performers and the video had stormed Youtube charts by having the highest viewed video of the month with over 39 million views.

What is Gangnam Style ? and what's Oppa ?

"Oppa Gangnam style" literally translate to "Im a Gangnam style", in which "oppa" in Korean referring expression used by females to refer to older males such as older male friends or order brothers. (source)

Gangnam is the south of the Han River is Seoul, in which gang means 'river' , that is, the Han River, nam is 'south'. Gangnam is an iconic place to Korean people which representing wealth, status and luxurious life.

PSY's "Gangnam Style" is satire about the Gangnam life itself which is nothing bit materialistic , showing the sign of about people who are dreaming of becoming a Gangnam resident someday.

Some Example of the signs refer to the video :

1.PSY seemingly sunbathing on sandy beach , fanned by a hot girl but it turns out he is surrounded by little kids playing in the playground.

2. PSY walks together with two hot girls just like P.Diddy walking on the red carpet but in fact he and the girls are in an outdoor parking lot and instead of confetti , tens and thousands of pieces trash are thrown at them.

3. PSY on a merry-go-round ride, not on a real horseback ride.

4. When PSY emerges from the water, it looks like he's swimming in the swimming pool at a country club or in the sea but fact , he is swimming in the public bathhouse.

Every scene is necessary and got it own connotation in the song's music video and it is all about the Gangnam history as Myth.
